Initial audience research

I did my audience research on 16 to 17 year olds.
Some examples of the answers I got were:

What type of music videos do you enjoy watching? 

On average from the 15 people I asked preferred narrative based and performance based music video compared to concept based. However they liked the video to have something that stands out and is different to other music videos.  

What's your current favourite music video, artist and genre? 

There was a range of favourite genres from the participants however the most common three were dance, chart and indie rock music. Examples of most common favourite artists were Rihanna, Artic Monkeys, Flume and Ben Howard. There was a big variety of favourite music videos however, like the first question, they all contained narrative and performance elements. 

What do you look for in a music video? 

On the whole many people looked for interesting narratives which caught their attention from the beginning of the video. An example was We Found Love- Rhianna as the participant claimed it portrayed a range of emotions and situation which they can emphasise as well as relate to. The video also includes dialogue at the beginning which many of the participants said they found interesting and gripping.
