Music video inspirations
Right Here- Jess Glynne
In the the music video Right Here- Jess Glynne I like the way the mirror effect is used. I think that this make the visual more interesting and appealing to the audience in order to grab their attention. There are also many scenes with a rewind effect, such as the artist taking off her jacket but in reverse so she appears to be putting it on. This also creates very interesting and unique visuals. It can be seen at 0:30 of the music video clip.
The lighting effects in the video are also very effective. I like how it gives the video an almost indie/retro feel even though the song is very modern. I also like the artists fashion and style in this video as it is very up to date yet edgy. This would be the look I am thinking for my artist. In addition the close ups of the artists lips and visuals of her looking into the camera make her connect more with the audience making the video more engaging.
At the end of the video the artist can be seen performing the song on stage with her band. I like this concept as it can make the audience feel as if the song is being played to them live and exclusively.
I Met You- Anna Lunoe &Flume
Also like the previous music video, this also uses the mirror effect throughout. However the line of symmetry is often used in different and more places. This creates very unique and interesting visuals which I think could work well in my video.
Dust Clears- Clean Bandit
In this music video I liked how different actors in the video appeared to perform the lyrics even though it is not them singing it. At one point in the video, shown in the bottom left picture, and actor and the artist appear to perform the lyrics together. I think that this could work well in my own music video as it creates more emphasis on the lyrics and so makes the video more engaging.
I also like the camera angles used, which can be seen in the top right picture. I think that it makes more aesthetic visuals for the audience. The two pictures on the right also have a contrasting feel to the images on the left. The juxtaposition of these shots also puts emphasis on the lyrics of the song for 'the dust clearing' and so feeling more free. Therefore I feel that in my video this technique could be a good way of portraying the narrative of the piece.
Another concept I also like is how the setting is also used as instruments. In the bottom right image the artist can be seen playing the drums on the pile of ice which is unusual making it eye catching and interesting.
